This is the DJ Motorsports write up from them.Just one error - we changed karts in qualifying and could not get a quick lap in before the end, therefore putting us 10th (from 23) on the grid. At the start I was up to 7th, but taken out on lap 2 at hairpin 1, dropping us to 17th - not a kart change.
The rest is as written.May already and 23 teams signed on for round 3 of the Enduroseries. The weather was kind to us with a gentle breeze but no rain!
The qualifying/practice session was just that and with only three teams in the 49s and the majority of the field with times of 50 — 50.9 we were in for a close race tonight.
S & M Racing (Stuart & Matt Jones) were on a mission from the off taking pole position with a time of 49.839, with Nip & Tuck 2nd 49.952 and Team 20093rd 49.962. Grand Pre 4th, Lift Away 5th, The McUshers 6th, Kerb Crawlers 7th, Mighty Pheett 8th, GPL 9th, KP Nuts 10th, Super Heroes in Training 11th, Steptoe & Son 12th, C ‘n’ N 13th, Bee Gees 14th, Team Christie 15th, Trim Gym 16th, The Woodsy 17th, “B” Control Freaks 18th, “2” Harts 19th, Axium 20th, Still Game 21st, Flying Squad 22nd and Crane Boys 23rd.
3,2,1 and they’re off. 23 karts all heading for the first corner together, tightly packed and deciding who is the bravest and won’t brake! The bravest as you would expect was one of our “boys in blue” KP Nuts who took 3 places, although the “Old Buck” had taken the lead as you would expect by the first corner although not for long!
As they approached hairpin 2 Axium was caught in the mix and as they all took their positions had a nudge and spun losing 4 places. The battle at the front was again one of Experience over Age, or Age over experience.
By lap 2, our bravest boys had come in for a kart change dropping them from 7th to 17th, and the Mighty Pheett had moved up the grid to 5th, although picking up a couple of contacts on the way.
There was some very close racing tonight which we were expecting if qualifying was anything to go by. Some drivers swapping positions. One of those battles was Lift Away and Team 2009 for 10 laps. Team 2009held 3rd position but Lift Away kept knocking on the door. The same with Grand Pre and GPL. Further down the grid Steptoe & Son and Team Christie were battling.
The persistence of Mighty Pheett to move up the grid unfortunately earned him a third penalty resulting in the only Black Flag of the night. When Mark came into the pits he decided on only lap 16 to retire from 4th position, the saying “ Spit, Pram and dummy” come to mind (I was told to write that by his team mate!). The second driver was not ready which lost a lot of time whilst he put on his crash helmet and ran into the pit lane and off he went into 20th position.
As we approach the half way mark and driver changes, S & M Racing still lead, The McUshers with a great drive in to 2nd, Nip & Tuck 3rd, Team 20094th, Lift Away 5th, Grand Pre 6th, KP Nuts 7th, Super Heroes in Training 8th Kerb Crawlers 9th, GPL 10th, Steptoe & Son 11th, Bee Gees 12th, C ‘n’ N 13th, Trim Gym 14th, Team Christie 15th, “B” Control Freaks 16th, “2” Harts 17th, The Woodys 18th, Mighty Pheett 19th, Still Game 20th, Flying Squad 21st, Axium 22nd and Crane Boys 23rd.
Driver changes are between 25 — 35 minutes into the race and Bee Gees are the first team to change drivers, the last team with 20 seconds to spare were Nip & Tuck.
40 minutes already gone and S & M Racing are still leading, but now on a charge are Lift Away who are 2nd, with Team 2009up their exhaust in 3rd, chasing the top three Nip & Tuck in 4th, The McUshers 5th, KP Nuts now in 6th catching the pack. Grand Pre 7th, Super Heroes in Training 8th, Kerb Crawlers 9th, GPL 10th, Steptoe & Sons 11th, Bee Gees 12th Mighty Pheett 13th, C ‘n’ N 14th, Trim Gym 15th, Team Christie 16th, “B” Control Freaks 17th, The Woodys 18th, “2” Harts 19th, Still Game 20th, Flying Squad 21st, Axium 22nd and Crane Boys 23rd.
As the clock ticked down, yes it is back, KP Nuts 4th and Nip & Tuck 5th came up the hill past the café side by side and as they approached the straight Still Game was about to be lapped by both karts but how he held on as they whizzed either side of him at Conways is amazing, a slight gasp from Race Control!
A final surge from Trim Gym gaining a place to 13th and The Woodys take a place on the final lap.
After 72 laps a well deserved win to S & M Racing 20 seconds ahead of Lift Away 2nd, KP Nuts with a stunning drive from 17th on the second lap to 3rd, Nip & Tuck 4th, Team 20095th, The McUshers 6th, Grand Pre 7th, Super Heroes in Training 8th, Kerb Crawlers 9th, Steptoe & Son 10th, GPL 11th, Mighty Pheett 12th, Trim Gym 13th, Bee Gees 14th, Team Christie 15th, C ‘n’ N 16th, The Woodys 17th, “B” Control Freaks 18th, “2” Harts 19th, Still Game 20th, Flying Squad 21st, Axium 22nd and Crane Boys 23rd.
The 5 teams that raced against each other tonight, we awarded their highest placed team a trophy. This team who could have possibly been on the podium if they had not come into the pits and got out of the kart with “red mist” are “The Mighty Pheett” Unfortunately there was only a “Mighty Phoott” at presentation and we presented him with the trophy.
